On Saturday April 9th, FRESC hosted the Working Families Forum with Denver Mayoral Candidates at the La Alma Recreation Center. Labor and community leaders and grassroots activists gathered to hear the candidates’ plans for making Denver a city that works for everyone. Scott Jorgenson, an out of work sheet metal worker, asked about how the candidates would ensure that future development in Denver is responsible and benefits the community. Melissa Trujillo, a La Alma single mother struggling to find a full-time job, asked the candidates about their plans to create and retain good jobs in Denver. And Maria Luna, an immigrant and a hotel worker, asked the candidates what they would do to assist her and other workers in Denver struggling for justice in their jobs.
Scott, Melissa and Maria pose questions to the candidates:

Michael Hancock, Doug Linkhart, Danny Lopez, James Mejia, Theresa Spahn, Ken Simpson and Thomas Wolf attended. All but Wolf committed to prioritizing good jobs and strong communities as we defined them in our publication, A City That Works. FRESC is following up with the candidates who did not attend the forum, Carol Boigon, Jeff Peckman, and Chris Romer, to ask them to sign onto our principles as well.
